Steven is the CEO and co-Founder of mig33, a global mobile consumer internet company, & a Director of BellDirect, Australia's largest independent online stockbroker. He has extensive experience in developing and commercialising compelling internet services for consumers & fundrising.
Sanford (1996) was Australia's first online stockbroking company. Sanford had many innovations in mobile / internet services, capital equity markets (over 120 issues for several hundred $m), virtual broker for financial planners, etc.
Co-founded with Mei Lin Ng, mig33 (2005) is a leading Social Entertainment Service modelled on Tencent QQ. Mig33 has attracted more than 50m users in countries all over the world, and is funded by a number of leading venture capital firms including Accel, Redpoint & DCM.
Belldirect (2006) is Australia's largest independent online stockbroker & part of the Bell Potter wealth management group.
Steven began his career at the age of 7, programming Fortran at UWA’s Maths Department courtesy of his father who lectured there. After finishing University in 1990, he worked at Arthur Anderson, and Coopers & Lybrand as an auditor/accountant. Then as an Investment Advisor at Saw James Capel then McIntosh West, before founding Sanford in 1996. He maintains an avid interest in a range of computing languages including HTML, PHP, Python, Java and C++. A consequence of his professional experience, he has also been involved in over a hundred capital issues for several hundred million dollars, including raising over USD$50m for companies that he himself has founded and led.
Steven was awarded an inaugural WA Business News “40 under 40” Award in 2002, & he was a finalist in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Australia’s Western Region. He has extensive private and public board experience, is a frequent speaker at conferences in Silicon Valley, Europe, Asia, & Australia, & has appeared on CNBC, Financial Times, the Economist, and Bloomberg.
